How does Coinstar® work?
It’s easy to convert your coins at a Coinstar machine. Slowly pour your coins into the tray, and guide them into the slot. When all your coins have been counted, a voucher will be printed. Take your voucher to the supermarket customer service desk to get cash, or take it to the checkout to use the voucher with your shopping. If you are using a Coinstar machine in a Credit Union, simply take your voucher to the teller to get cash.
How do I find my nearest Coinstar machine?
It’s easy. Just use the machine locator in the upper right-hand corner of your screen to search for your nearest Coinstar machine.
Do I need to sort my coins before using Coinstar?
No. Coinstar machines accept unsorted coins in your local currency. Patented technology even allows them to filter out foreign coins and other debris. However, these items may not be returned afterwards, so it’s a good idea to remove them beforehand if you can and take out anything that may jam the machine.
Do Coinstar machines give me actual cash?
No. Once your coins have been counted, you will receive a voucher for the full amount to cash in or, if you are using a Coinstar machine in a store, use to pay for your shopping.
Is there a charge to use a Coinstar machine?
We charge a 9.9% coin processing fee for cash transactions (but, fees may vary by location). The fee is deducted from the amount poured at the time of your transaction.
What if I have a large amount of coins?
If you are an individual and think that you have more than €2,250 in coins, please call our Customer Service department on 1-800-818-654 as we may be able to provide special assistance. Manual assistance with coin counting services is not offered in France or other countries where it is prohibited.
Do I have to redeem the cash voucher at the store or Credit Union where I cash in my coins?
Yes. Because Coinstar reimburses each store or Credit Union for transactions processed by the machine at their location, we ask our partners not to cash vouchers from anywhere else.
Does the Coinstar cash voucher need to be redeemed for cash the day of the transaction?
Most retail locations and Credit Unions require vouchers to be redeemed the same day or within a certain timeframe. Please check before you leave the store or Credit Union with an un-cashed voucher.
My cash voucher was lost or stolen. What should I do?
A cash voucher is just like cash. We’re unable to replace or refund lost or stolen vouchers.
I’m unable to read my voucher. What should I do?
Please contact Customer Service at 1-800-818-654 for assistance.
There’s an issue with the machine. Or, there’s a message saying it’s out of service. What should I do?
We’re sorry there’s a problem with a Coinstar machine. Our handy machine finder at the top right of your screen can direct you to another machine near you. A local technician will receive a notification if the machine is out of order and will repair it as soon as possible.
